2. | David COSTNER was born on 08 Feb 1774 in Dallas, North Carolina (son of Thomas COSTNER and Jennie LOWE); died on 28 Nov 1840 in Gaston County, North Carolina; was buried in Philadelphia Graveyard. Notes:
David "Stiff" Costner and most of his children moved to Blount County, Tennessee 1828-1831 (evidenced by marriage of daughter Mary Ann in 1828 in Lincoln County, and Rachael in 1831 Blount County). This included a migration of other well known Lincoln families also that traveled together - Costners, Bests, Carpenters and Huffstetlers. Many of these families intermarried and remained in Blount Count.
One of David "Stiff" Costner's younger daughters married Harley B.B. Huffstetler (formerly from Lincoln County, North Carolina) in 1831 in Blount County, Tennessee. They moved back to Lincoln County, North Carolina with her father and mother about 1834 and remained until 1839 when he sold land inherited from his father and returned to Blount County, Tennessee.
Document records from family bibles of the Tennessee Costner women show that David "Stiff" Costner was born February 8, 1774, died November 28, 1840. This is also documented by correspondence by Faryl I. Fleming in her Huffstetler Book published in 1992.

From A Costner Family Tree web site
Most of the Costners throughout this area can trace their heritage back to Hans Georg Adam Kastner. After leaving Edenkoben, Germany, Adam and 4 of his 7 children when to England via Rotterdam around 1740. His wife stayed in Germany with his other three children.
In 1748, Adam loaded up his family for the trip to the New World. After settling in York County, Pennsylvania he remarried and had three more children. His oldest son Jacob (and possibly Peter) were the first to travel to North Carolina. Adam and the rest of the family followed shortly. They settled in an area close to present day Dallas, North Carolina. The Kastner name was changed to Costner around this time. Although, Adam kept the Kastner name until his death in 1767.
