    Wallace was in the Civilian Conservation Corp at beginning of WWII, at which time he was put on active duty in the US Army. Within a short time, he was discharged and became an active member of the Merchant Marines. He worked his way up to that of "First Engineer" and made many voyages to Russia (probably because of the huge bonuses being offered to those making the Baltic Sea run.

    Wallace and Juanita's infantchild died 22 apr 1941 and buried in Waughtown Cemetery, Winston-Salem, NC
