Rober Talmadge Shutt, Jr. enlisted in the Air Force on 16 August, 1966. Trained as Radio Repairman- troposheric scaatter. Duty was in the Phillipne Islands, Viet Nam, and South Korea from 1967-68. Retrained in repair for Bomb/Navigator Trainers and stayed at Mather, AFB Sacramento, Ga 69-70. Finally released 15 Aug, 1970. No awards that I can find.

Obituary: SHUTT RURAL HALL - Rober T. Shutt Jr., 66, of Franklin, formerly of Rural Hall, passed away Monday, March 8, 2010 after a year-long battle with cancer. Born in Rural Hall, NC, he was the son of the late Rober T. Shutt Sr. and Minerva Fulp Shutt. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his Masters Degree from Georgia State University. Rober was a US Air Force Veteran of Vietnam. He was employed as an agent with the IRS in Atlanta for many years and a lifetime member of the Georgia Society of CPA's. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He is survived by two daughters, Ashley DesRoches and husband Peter of Duluth, GA and Leah Smith and husband Greg of Lexington, SC; a sister, Linda Freeman of Rural Hall, NC; close companion, Faye Carver; three grandchildren, Vivian Smith, Elena Smith and Anna-Kate DesRoches; one niece and one nephew. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 14, in the Crestview Memorial Park Cemetery in Rural Hall, NC. Rev. Anne Elmore will officiate. Memorial donations can be made to the Little Tennessee Land Trust, P. O. Box 1148, Franklin, NC 28744 or to the Lions Club of Franklin, P.O. Box 703, Franklin, NC 28744. Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Rober married Frances Lane SMITH on 08 Jul 1973 in Ashville NC. Frances was born on 21 Dec 1944 in La Grange GA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

Rober Talmadge Shutt, Senior enlisted US ARMY on 25 August, 1942 as PFC Rifleman. Duty Cherbourg, France. On December 3, 1944 was captured by the Germans at SarUnion, France and held at Stalag 12A and 4 in German. Liberated on 4/25/45 and discharged from Service on 5/27/1945. He received the Purple Heart on 13 Nov. 1944 and the European African Middle EAstern Campaign metal with one bronze star, and of course the Victory Metal
He carried scars from this internment throughout the remainder of his life. He lived on a small farm (on Ziglar Rd. in Rural Hall, NC all his married life except WWII years.

Rober married Minerva Agnes FULP on 06 Nov 1941 in Winston-Salem NC. Minerva (daughter of Samuel Otto FULP and Veola Agnes TURNER) was born on 07 Jun 1920 in Winston-Salem NC; died on 20 Feb 1999 in Rural Hall, NC. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Sam died at the Kare Nursing Home in Kernersville NC

Samuel married Veola Agnes TURNER on 15 Apr 1914 in Rockingham Co, NC. Veola (daughter of John Richard TURNER and Agnes Ann SOUTHERN) was born on 10 Jan 1888 in Rockingham Co NC; died on 24 Sep 1950 in At home, Forsyth Co NC; was buried in Crews Methodist Church, Forsyth Co., NC. Notes:

Veola died at 5:45pm at her home on Reidsville Hwy Rt 158 outside Winston-Salem , NC. She was 62 yrs old. Funeral service was held at Crews Methodist Church at 2:30pm, Ernie Shore was one of the pallbearers.
Troubled with Rheumatoid Arthritis most of her life.
