SOI: b & d dates from Tombstone. Middle name was probably William as the 1880 Census list him as William R. Turner. Rufus had lots of property when he died - built lots of houses. Several were lost in fires. It would be interesting to locate his will to see who inheirted his assets.

He had a wooden leg which was the result of service during the Civil War. He died at the home of his daughter Veola and her husband Sam Fulp in Winston-Salem, NC where he lived out his later years.. He was mean when drunk, but loving when sober.
He had glass eye. Minerva (G'dtr) remembers sitting on his lap and watching him take it out and put it back in.

On July 20, 1870 he was in Rockingham Co, Mayo Twp. as listed in 1870 NC census. He gave the middle name as "T" in that census.
Tyre was 71 years old. His wife Mary [Glenn] was 61
Son John was 19, and John's wife, Sarepta [Plummer] was 18.
He apparently died before 1880 census, as he was not listed with his widow and son John R. that year.
He was listed as dead on his son Jas P. Turner's marriage license application on April 22, 1885.

If Mary (Glenn) Turner died in Stokes Co. [while living with her son] then
