She was also a childhood friend of my mother and lived close by. On many occassions, I would take Papa for a Sunday afternoon ride to Stokesdale and Stacy would accompany us. John was a cook in the Confederate Army at Cape Fear during the Civil War (1864-1868)
He had a wooden leg which was the result of service during the Civil War. He died at the home of his daughter Veola and her husband Sam Fulp in Winston-Salem, NC where he lived out his later years.. He was mean when drunk, but loving when sober.
He had glass eye. Minerva (G'dtr) remembers sitting on his lap and watching him take it out and put it back in.
