    George Lunceford

    George Lunceford was born in Virginia on June 8, 1762. George was a private with Colonel George Rogers Clark, who with his command captured Kaskaskia.In addition, they captured Prairie du Rocher in 1778. He reenlisted on January 20, 1780, and received his discharge February 18, 1783.

    George married Mary Ann (Nancy) Judy, daughter of Jacob Judy, on September 10, 1792.

    George and Mary had two sons, Jacob Judy born December 11, 1793, William born April 15, 1796 and two daughters Elizabeth born October 11, 1802 and Ruth in 1805. George Lunceford and Samuel Judy purchased the sugar-loaf tract of land and made a farm on it. Judy sold out to Lunceford in 1800. George died on December 8, 1808 and is buried in Palmier Cemetery, Columbia, Illinois.

    George married Nancy JUDY on 10 Apr 1792 in Sugar Loaf, Illinois. Nancy was born on 15 Apr 1773 in Pittsburgh, PA; died on 9 Dec 1852 in St Clair County, IL; was buried in Palmer Cemetery, St Clair County, IL. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

    Age 16 - George Lunceford came to the Illinois Territory as a soldier under George Rogers Clark in 1778. After the surrender of Indian Chief Kaskaskia, July 4th, which transferred the N.W. Territory from King George III, to Virginia, he made his home here.

    Age 17 - George enlisted in the Revolutionary Army, served three years in Captain Bailey's company of Regulars of the Illinois Regiment in the Virginia State Line under George Rogers clark, discharged 18 Feb 1783 as a private.

    Age 29 - George was married to Nancy (Mary Ann) Judy, a Dutch girl, whose father had, a few years prior to Clark's expedition swung around along the Virginia and Kentucky side from Pennsylvania to Sugar Loaf, south of Cahokia, Illinois.

    Age 46 - George Lunceford died December 8, 1808 at Sugar Loaf, Illinois

    Notes:

    Georg Crafft Volp's 1754 Probate record in Germany shows that one son was Georg Crafft Volp who had gone to America. Our Georg Crafft Volp arrived in America in 1751 and eventually changed his name and his family's last name to George Fulp. His wife Maria Magdalina must have been known as Mary because that is how it is shown in George's Last will and Testament..
