Info from Tom McElfresh via e-mail 6-19-03: It now seems certain that Joseph T. Turner's second wife was born
Louella Oakley and that she was first married to a man named Henry
Odell. Henry & Louella ("Ella") Odell had a daughter Bessie, who
married Victor M. Layton/Leighton in 1907. Louella's mother was named
Sally/Sallie.

Matthews.

The 1870 census lists Sally Oakley, age 40, "Keeping house." Sally has
three young children. The oldest is Luella, age 5.

The 1920 census lists Joseph & Luella Turner living with Victor
Leighton, widower. Victor has a son, Wayne, age 12. The Turners are
listed as Victor's parents-in-law.

The 1910 census lists Victor & Bessie Layton, with son Wayne, age 2.
The Laytons have been married for 3 years.

The marriage license for Victor M. Layton & Bessie B. Odell (23 May
1907) lists Bessie's parents as Henry & Ella Odell.
