    Thomas moved from London to the British Colonies in America and settled in Lancaster County in the Colony of Virginia. He spent the rest of his life there on his Barford Plantation where he died October 22, 1700. His first wife was Mary Anscell Parkhurst who died at age 20. On May 5, 1670 he married Katherine Dale. They had 12 children (three died at birth or as infants). They named one of their sons Thomas Carter Jr.
