    Notes:

She grew up in Bethesda, Md. At the age of twelve, she became a paraplegic. She graduated from American University with an under-graduate degree in communications and a master's degree in counseling. Throughout her life, she was an active advocate for the disabled and civil rights for all. Her last job at the President's Committee on employment of the handicapped she served as editor of their national magazine, Performance, later titled Disabled U.S.A. She traveled within the United States and abroad to help educate and inform people about disabilities.

She spent the later years of her life in Charlottesville enjoying the companionship of her lov-ing family and adoring dogs. She delighted in her nieces and was their "Auntie Mame."

Diane lived her life her way not knowing the meaning of "you can't do that." She was re-spected and admired for her intelligence, tenacity, independence, wit, strength and gener-osity.
