ATLANTA ? Jack Rodgers Whitmore, of Atlanta, Georgia, was born December 8, 1933, and passed away on Monday, May 25, 2009, after a long illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 29, at Sandy Springs Chapel in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Interment with military honors will be in Arlington Memorial Park.
Jack was born in Lake Mary, Florida, the youngest of 13 children, to Mrs. Mattie Lousetta Fulp Whitmore and Jesse Henry Whitmore. He attended Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, Fla., and graduated in 1951. Upon graduation, he joined the Army and fought in the Korean War. When done serving his country, he enrolled at the University of Florida on the GI bill. He majored in a party at the Sigma Nu House. When leaving college, he set off to California and began his career as a fantastic salesman. After many years of moving, he settled back in Florida and met the love of his life, Carolyn. They married on May 25, 1963, and built a wonderful life together. After settling in Atlanta, Jack focused his career on furniture sales. He worked for several furniture companies before starting his own manufacturing plants in Mexico and China. Jack's personality exuded fun, as he was always the life of the party. He was loyal to every person he met and he never denied a friend a helping hand.
Jack is survived by his love of 46 years, Carolyn; three children, Robert Whitmore, Susan Whitmore and Linda Whitmore-Ash, and six grandchildren, Davis Whitmore, 14, Johnathan Whitmore, 13, Carolynn Whitmore, 10, Casey Lee Ash, 6, Hannah Whitmore, 6, and Carrie Lynn Ash, 3. He is also survived by his sisters, Virginia Clark, Nancy Robinson, Barbara Fromberger and Stella Harrington and several nieces and nephews.
In addition, Jack is survived by a motley crew of lifelong friends, Jim Davis, George DeLucia, Nelson Romero, J.C. Carroll, Red Holmes and Norm Kohl.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. tonight, Thursday, at Sandy Springs Chapel Funeral Directors, 136 Mt. Vernon Highway NW, Sandy Springs, Georgia.
