    "The following information was given to me orally by James Norman ROSS of Evansville, Indiana. He was the grandson of Robert A. ROSS, and lived next-door to his grandfather all his life. Both were of clear mind although Robert lived to be in his nineties.

    The ROSS family came to America from Scotland around 1700. There were a dozen who came together. They landed in Delaware and from there migrated to Pennsylvania. The parents of Alexander ROSS were from Pennsylvania. They went to Maryville, Tennessee, where Alexander was born in 1813. Alexander, his wife (Margaret BEST) and his entire family moved to Clay County, Kentucky in 1866. At this time John Wesley ROSS and Thomas C. ROSS married Elizabeth CROOK and Sarah ROOT, respectively, and moved on to Crawford County (Girard), KS. Alexander and the rest of his family moved on to Henderson County, Kentucky, where they were enumerated in the 1880 census. Frances E. ROSS, a daughter, and husband Dillon BLEVINS remained in Clay County, Kentucky. Some time after 1880, Margaret and two of her children, David and Mary Jane (KINNAMON) died in Henderson County Margaret and David lie in unmarked graves. Alexander ROSS was a farmer and a preacher in the Missionary Baptist Church for nearly sixty years.

  3. 10.  Henry T. STOUT was born on 25 May 1780 in Shenandoah County, Virginia (son of Godfrey Daniel STOUT, Sr. and Catherine Magdalen VOLTZEN); died on 26 Oct 1878 in Carter County, Tennessee; was buried in Johnson County, Tennessee.

    Notes:

    "In 1841 Henry Stout Sr. bought land on 6 mile Creek; in 1853 Henry Stout sold to Asa Watson, owner of Mountvale Springs, and an agreement was made that as Watson had $865.00 of his money he should live on it his lifetime using firewood as needed. In 1860 Henry Stout gave 50 acres land to "the wife of Samuel Stout", no name, no claim as to relationship." From Will E.     Pension Deposition: [Keziah GENTRY WRIGHT STOUT, widow of Henry STOUT, submitted her application to receive a Widow's Pension based on Henry's service in the War of 1812. Abstracted:]
    "...November, A.D. one thousand eight hundred and Seventy eight... Kizziah Stout...a resident of Stoney Creek, in the State of Tennessee Carter County...declares that she is the widow of Henry Stout deceased...a private in the Company commanded by Captain William Naileys in the Virginia Regiment of Militia...in the war of 1812...she was married to the said Henry Stout...in 7th Civil District, in the county of Johnson, and in the State of Tennessee, on the 8th day of March A.D. 1861 by one H.P. Murphy...; and that her name before her said marriage was Kizziah Wright; and she further states that said Stout had a former wife by the name of Dolen who died many years ago but don't know when or where and that her said husband Henry Stout, died on Stoney Creek, in the State of Tennessee Carter Co., on the 26th day of October A.D. 1878; and she further declares that the following have been the places of residence of herself and her said husband since the date of his discharge from the Army, viz; in Johnson & Carter County Tennessee since their said marriage before she
    cannot state...her said husband was a pensioner...that her residence is...county of Carter State of Tennessee, and that her post office is Carters Furnace Carter County, Tennessee...Kizziah Stout (signed her "x" mark)...[witnessed by] C.C. Collins and Isaac H. Brown."

    Court: "Tuesday morning April Term 1883. The death of Kizaziah Stout was proven by M.P. Elliott and Geo. Oliver." (Carter Co. TN Quorum Court Record No. 1, pg. 553)

    Henry married Sarah DOVE on 05 Jan 1809 in Washington County, Virginia. Sarah was born in 1790 in Virginia; died in in Blount County, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Cemetery: [NJSB Note: I am assuming that Sarah was buried at the Six Mile Cemetery, approx. 3 mi. from Montvale Rd on Old Piney Rd, left on top of hill, Blount Co. TN. My assumption is that I believe Henry and
    Sarah belonged to this church since it is in the near vicinity of where they lived. I have personally visited this cemetery and there are over 100 unmarked graves in it.]
