William HUNGERFORD, Sr.

William emigrated from England in 1646, probably to Virginia and then to Maryland in 1647. It was common for settlers to go over into Virginia for a time and return to Maryland to claim more land. On 7 Apr 1648 William White claimed 100 acres of land for Hungerford's arrival in 1646.

29 Feb 1647 - All assembled except Thomas ALlen, John Lewger prox: Mr. Bradnox and Mr. Fenwick. William Whitle, Stannop Roberts and William Hungerford petition for themselves and severall Soldiers against the estate of Mrs. Margarett Brent for their wages. And the said Mrs. Brent promised to send downe to Virginia with all speed ready tobacco to be procured by her, to buy provisions of dyett of them, most importuned and desyred by them.

William married Anne SMOOT about 1657 in Charles County, Maryland. Anne (daughter of William W. SMOOT and Grace UNK) was born about 1641 in York County, Virginia; died in Jul 1662 in Charles County, Maryland. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
