Bill died at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem NC after approximately 9 months illness. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lexington, also a member of the VFW Post 3074, a former Civitan and member of the Fellowship Class at First Baptist Church. Bill graduated from Walkertown High School and East Carolina University. He was an accountant and owned his own accounting firm in Lexington for many years.
He served in the USN during WWII as a torpedoman on a PT Boat (Ron 21, PT-324). Bill attended the US Navy's Advanced Torpedo School at the US Naval Torpedo Station in Keyporat, Washington specializing in Mark 8, 13, 14 and 15 Torpedoes and completing the courses on December 27, 1943. From here, he went on to Melville, RI where he completed his training in Motor Torpedo Boat combat duty on April 14, 1944. After a tour of combat duty in the South Pacific, He received his Honorable Discharge from the USN on February 15, 1946.
