....Betty is buried in Baker, LA beside her husband James Starns who preceded her in death by 17 years. Betty married him when she was only fifteen....Mother made her wedding gown and those of the bridesmaids as well as their headpieces. I was eight years old when Betty married Jimmy in the First Baptist Church in Franklinton. She was always a favorite aunt of mine and was a great beauty. She was a tiny woman who was about the sweetest girl on the planet. Life was not good to her. Janice probably has that wedding album. Jimmy's family owned the Starns' Drug Store in Bogalusa. His mother was extremely cruel to Betty....often saying mean things that made Betty cry. Mrs. Starns was a very snobby woman. I knew her when I was in high school and swore to myself that I would never be cruel or mean to any daughter-in-law of mine. When Jimmy passed away, the Starns family had nothing more to do with Betty. The children of Betty and Jimmy are all very sweet natured, but I have not seen them in about fifteen years. I did not attend her funeral, but Mom did.

26, 1998, at Greenview Hospital, Bowling Green. She was 64, a former
resident of Baker and a native of Poplarville, Miss. Visiting at Baker
Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Visiting at Bethany World Prayer Center Prayer Chapel, 10 a.m. until
religious services at 11 a.m. Monday, conducted by the Rev. Randy
Craighead. Interment in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Survived by
husband, George F. Powell Jr., Bowling Green; mother-in-law, Nelle
Love Powell, Savannah, Tenn.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice
and Jesse Bourgoyne and Martha and Ray Wallace, all of Denham Springs;
a stepdaughter, Tammy Tyjunah Powell, Booneville, Miss.; a son and
daughter-in-law, Allen and Peters, Phoenix, Ariz., Jack Peters,
Cottonwood, Ariz., and Richard Peters, Carriere; 11 grandchildren,
Clint, James and Sherry Starns, Brian, Chad and Chris Bourgoyne, and
Shawn, Donald, Connie, Ray Jr. and Rachel Wallace; and eight
great-grandchildren,Kayla, Kristen and Brandon Starns, Kaytlyn and
Emily Bourgoyne, Alexis and Hailey Goudeau and Monique Wilson.
Preceded in death by first husband, James Starns. Pallbearers will be
Brian, Chad and Chris Bourgoyne, Clint Starns, and Shawn and Donald
Goudeau. Honorary pallbearer is James Starns.
