  His daughter Ruby Nell said that her dad had a stroke and was taken to the VA Hospital in Biloxi, MS where lingered for about a year. He had retired from Love Motor Company Chevy dealership in Poplarville, MS., He was their chief automobile mechanic. He also got his brother, Raymer Phelps Peters, a job there as an auto mechanic. He suffered from high blood pressure, but didn't take any medicine for that condition.. After he retired he ran a Pure Oil Gas Station. ~~~~~~ Sharon Jerry Alexander Bond stated the following: Aunt Mernice, who was around ten at the time, went with my dad, who was thirteen, to live with Aunt Mary (Amacker) Peters and Uncle Lec Peters in Poplarville. They were living in Rayville, LA when Ida passed away. Marie Alexander was fifteen and had married by that time.
