- Alive at 1870 Census, Monroe County, Tennessee. He purchased, with John Smith, 200 acres of land in Cocke County, Tennessee. (Grant # 22602) on 20 April 1838. He and Mary are also listed as members of the Slate Creek Baptist Church (Membership List -- 1812-1876), but it is not known when they moved to Cocke County, but it was probably in 1837 when Zach requested a letter of dismissal from the Church. They moved to McMinn County, Tennessee by 1850 and to Monroe County by 1860 (Census).

Brother Dalton came forward and acknowledged that he had done wrong in going to see the slite of hand and the church forgave him

Choose Brethren Thomas Smith, Simon Smith, Zachariah Dalton delegates to the association on Sunday the thirteenth opened a door for the reception of members.
October 5, 1837
Brother Zackariah Dalton came forward and requested a letter of dismission for him and his wife which was granted.
