"The following information was given to me orally by James Norman ROSS of Evansville, Indiana. He was the grandson of Robert A. ROSS, and lived next-door to his grandfather all his life. Both were of clear mind although Robert lived to be in his nineties.
The ROSS family came to America from Scotland around 1700. There were a dozen who came together. They landed in Delaware and from there migrated to Pennsylvania. The parents of Alexander ROSS were from Pennsylvania. They went to Maryville, Tennessee, where Alexander was born in 1813. Alexander, his wife (Margaret BEST) and his entire family moved to Clay County, Kentucky in 1866. At this time John Wesley ROSS and Thomas C. ROSS married Elizabeth CROOK and Sarah ROOT, respectively, and moved on to Crawford County (Girard), KS. Alexander and the rest of his family moved on to Henderson County, Kentucky, where they were enumerated in the 1880 census. Frances E. ROSS, a daughter, and husband Dillon BLEVINS remained in Clay County, Kentucky. Some time after 1880, Margaret and two of her children, David and Mary Jane (KINNAMON) died in Henderson County Margaret and David lie in unmarked graves. Alexander ROSS was a farmer and a preacher in the Missionary Baptist Church for nearly sixty years.
