Notes |
- Tombstone says birth date 27 February 17---; estimates are about 1752. Buried in Friendship Baptist Church, Saluda, North Carolina. On 16 March 1801 David, Jr. purchased 50 acres for 12 pounds, 10 shillings from a David Miller on the waters of Cove Creek, southeast of the "Brooker's". David lived on Howard Gap Road in present -day Polk County in his declining years. He is thought to have moved there in the 1820s from the Cove Creek area. Both Saluda Magazine and the book "Sketches of Polk County History" by Sadie Smathers Patton, tell of an Englishman, David Dalton, who lived on Howard Gap Road in Polk County, and whose family "married and intermarried" with the Morris, Thompson and Rhodes families., as being the progenitor of the Dalton's in Henderson and Polk Counties. It is believed that "Englishman" to have been David Jr's father, David, Sr.
