To wife Sarah, extx., dwelling plantation ___ & part of "The Exchange" adjoining sd. Plantation also use of "Perrywood" during minority of daughter Katherine, and testator's part of "The Exchange". To daughter Katherine land as afsd. At majority. To daughter Sarah & heirs, lands in possession of father, William Barton, adjoining Zachiah Swamp, also 100 A. "The Addition" also 300 A. on north side Swanson's alias Fradsham's Creeke, formerly part of Hugh Stan;ey's land. To Thomas Gant and heirs 100 A. of "Barton's Hope". To daughter Sarah afsd. Residue of "Barton's Hope". To son-in-law Bazill Waring 300 A. part of "Hadlow" in Charles Co. To revert to wife Sarah should he die during minority or without issue. To son-in-law Marsham Waring to cousin Elizabeth Smoote, and to John Warren, personalty. To wife Sarah and children afsd. Residue of personal estate. Children to be brought up in the Church of England. By codicil dated 19 Apr 1703, testator devises to John Nathan Smoote and his brother William, 400 A. "Barton's Hazard" on north side Zachiah Swamp, provided they make over to their brothers, Thomas & Charles Smoote, 400 A. _____ bequeathed them by their father Thomas Smoote; otherwise sd. "Barton's Hazard" to go to daughters Katherine & Sarah afsd. Also devises certain personalty to sister Margaret Hungerford. Trustees, in event of death of wife during minority of children, Thomas Brooke, Thomas Greenfield, John Wright, Col. Walter Smith, Samuel Queen & Thomas Smoote. William Barton III
May 11, 1696, he took the oaths appointed by the Act of Parliment. July 6, 1696 he had charge of the funds provided for Free Schools. He was Major William Barton when he was at the Council on May 14, 1697 and he was appointed to go to Virginia to strive with the Emporer of the Piscattoway Indians and his other great men to influence them to return to Maryland to live on their own habitation. Liber H D F, Folio 480, 498.
At the Council on Nov 10, 1698 Major William Barton was recommended to be commissioned Sheriff of Prince George Co., MD. The Records of the Proceedings of the General Assembly of the Upper House in 1704 reveal the services of Lt. Col. William Barton many times. His health became a problem. On Sep 25, 1704, a move was made and granted "that he might have leave to go home for recovery". He was present Dec 5, 1704 and on May 17, 1705. On Apr 2, 1706 at Roll Call for Prince Georges Co., MD William Barton was deceased. Orders were made to elect some one to serve in his place. The probate of his will proves he died before Nov 6, 1705 at the age of 38 years.

24 Jan 1699; John Chittam sold 125 acres part of 500 acre tract called "Exchange" to William Barton, merchant. Prince George County Land Records A.182.
1 Jun 1700; John Smith sold 250 acres of a 500 acre tract called "The Exchange" to William Barton, Gentleman. Prince George County Land Records A.324.
17 Oct 1701; Major William Barton bought 200 acres "Willard's Purchase" and 400 acres of a neck of land between Swan's Creek and the Patuxent near "Willard's Purchase". Prince George County Land Records C.16a.
26 Mar 1703; William Barton swapped "Bowling's Neck" to Richard Marsham for part of "Marsham's Rest"; Sarah Barton and Ann Marsham ack. deeds. Prince George County Land Records C.69a and 70a.
