- Rober Talmadge Shutt, Senior enlisted US ARMY on 25 August, 1942 as PFC Rifleman. Duty Cherbourg, France. On December 3, 1944 was captured by the Germans at SarUnion, France and held at Stalag 12A and 4 in German. Liberated on 4/25/45 and discharged from Service on 5/27/1945. He received the Purple Heart on 13 Nov. 1944 and the European African Middle EAstern Campaign metal with one bronze star, and of course the Victory Metal
He carried scars from this internment throughout the remainder of his life. He lived on a small farm (on Ziglar Rd. in Rural Hall, NC all his married life except WWII years.
