- Rober Talmadge Shutt, Jr. enlisted in the Air Force on 16 August, 1966. Trained as Radio Repairman- troposheric scaatter. Duty was in the Phillipne Islands, Viet Nam, and South Korea from 1967-68. Retrained in repair for Bomb/Navigator Trainers and stayed at Mather, AFB Sacramento, Ga 69-70. Finally released 15 Aug, 1970. No awards that I can find.
Obituary: SHUTT RURAL HALL - Rober T. Shutt Jr., 66, of Franklin, formerly of Rural Hall, passed away Monday, March 8, 2010 after a year-long battle with cancer. Born in Rural Hall, NC, he was the son of the late Rober T. Shutt Sr. and Minerva Fulp Shutt. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his Masters Degree from Georgia State University. Rober was a US Air Force Veteran of Vietnam. He was employed as an agent with the IRS in Atlanta for many years and a lifetime member of the Georgia Society of CPA's. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He is survived by two daughters, Ashley DesRoches and husband Peter of Duluth, GA and Leah Smith and husband Greg of Lexington, SC; a sister, Linda Freeman of Rural Hall, NC; close companion, Faye Carver; three grandchildren, Vivian Smith, Elena Smith and Anna-Kate DesRoches; one niece and one nephew. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 14, in the Crestview Memorial Park Cemetery in Rural Hall, NC. Rev. Anne Elmore will officiate. Memorial donations can be made to the Little Tennessee Land Trust, P. O. Box 1148, Franklin, NC 28744 or to the Lions Club of Franklin, P.O. Box 703, Franklin, NC 28744. Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
