2001 is a long time ago. My sons got after me to go to Grief Support at Willow Creek Church in January 2001. My first husband Bob had been dead since July 1999. I found myself sitting in the dark and was depressed and grieving. The winter months were the hardest.
John had started attending Willow Creek church several months earlier looking for a grieving widow so he signed up for the class. At grief John was one of about 8 people at my table. Our Facilitator would ask a question and we took turns answering.
One lady would just cry all the time. I thought she had just lost her husband but it was several years. That class helped us talk about things that was bothering us and no one criticized us and understood what we were going through. One day, the youngest man came in and was very upset. Finally told us that he couldn't live the rest of his life alone.
We all shared with him. I said that if I found someone, I would get married again.
When it was John's turn he said the same thing. Our group had some
social time (dinner parties) together and John had the big van and would drive. We both attended the Senior group also and would sit together.
The Senior Group had a bus trip up to Wisconsin for a dinner show and went together. He asked me out to dinner and I made the mistake of inviting him in my house. He would leave the house and 5 minutes later, he would call on his cell phone. About a two weeks after our grief support seminar was over we were going out regularly He was invited to a rather fancy wedding for Greg Napier's daughter and didn't want to go by himself. I didn't have a dress I thought was good enough so he took me shopping at Marshall Fields where he bought me a dressy pant suit. That was it, he proposed and I said yes.. We drove up to Great Lakes and bought my engagement and wedding ring. We we married July 8,2001.
