Ken and I have been married since May 3, 1997 and have been "in love" for 11 yrs altogether. We met while serving in the United States Navy in Great Lakes, IL in February 1990. We have 2 beautiful daughters, Sarah and Rebecca, and we reside in South Florida. Ken is a dedicated husband and father, and practices law at an insurance defense firm. He is an avid runner, cyclist and swimmer and currently training for a half-marathon! I am fortunate to be home with my girls as a stay at home/homeschooling mom! Before coming home full-time in June 2002, I was an elementary teacher in the public schools. I taught 1st, 3rd and 5th grades. I loved teaching itself, but my days were mostly spent dealing with a lack of respect for authority and the discipline issues that ensued. I also longed to be home with my then 3 yr old daughter,Sarah, as I have always aspired to be an at-home mom! I am very blessed to be able to live my dream!! I am also a runner (having inspired Ken after running my first 5k), and am also training to run the same half-marathon! Our family attends Christ Fellowship church and we enjoy the many friends we've gotten to know over the years in our church family

Denise Park Gordon 20101 wrote the following:Because of you and grandpa...I am such a country girl at heart!! As my passion in the kitchen has deepened through my food blogging, I realize more and more where that passion originated. Spending time in the kitchen with YOU!! I love you so much grandma...and I really hope that I get to spend more time with you this coming season down in Florida. As Leah Mae gets older (and now that the craziness of her helmet appts have subsided)....I am hoping to carve that time out. I'm glad that Sarah has been able to spend quality time with you & that she has really picked up on the crocheting. She seems really talented. She mentioned (I think) quilting...and if that is something you could teach us both I would really LOVE it!! Maybe 1 night every week or so, we could come over from 7:30-9:30 for a quilting class...it wouldn't have to be every week or always such a long period of time, but I figured we could chat and catch up too.
The more I think of it, the more I know we have in common. And you are such a wealth of information. How I wish I could spend some time up in the mountains w/ you all this summer...in the actual garden with grandpa learning. Is this really your last summer up there? Leah will be 3 1/2 next summer & the girls (12 and 8)....they would be good ages for me to visit...and we could be helpers and not wearing you all out ;)
If you get your hands on any pictures (scanned) that you can email me at some point...i am on the lookout for pics of your land/scenery in WV or shenandoah, VA or midland. Midland and WV are the two places I have SO many memories, but looking at the pics will bring back so many more. I am SO glad you all invested in our lives....things were tumultuous there while we were young, but you and grandpa were the stabilizers.....I could always sit in grandpa's lap (since my dad was out of the picture). my dad paul did the best he could, but he was not at all affectionate.
Lately as I read other food blogs and see the connections they have between family and food, I realize how little of that I had in my actual house. All my connections with food, meals, family sitting down & eating at the same time, preparing meals together...have come from you and the other families I spent time with (Comers, Rosens, etc). That is where I got any cooking experience I had. Most of my memories of home (of food) involve tv dinners, canned foods, microwaves, and fending for ourselves the majority of the time. So though I've added meals I could prepare over the year, and I have always preferred inventing them as I go along....I have really taken off these past 8 yrs that I have been home with my girls. Having all day access to my kitchen, and family to feed (that always seem to be hungry) have really given me a chance to take flight. I love it!!
I'm so glad you guys are right in my neighborhood. THANKS so much for your help with the girls. We are BLESSED to have you both so close. LOVE YOU!!! Denise
