    The wife of Henry Miller was the daughter of Adam Arbaugh. This is proven by Adam's will, and Barbara's marriage; both of which took place in Greenbrier County, then Virginia, now West Virginia. Adam in his will, named all his children, giving the family names for his married daughters. He mentions Mary as his wife. His will was made in 1798 and was probated in 1800, which was four years after the marriage of Barbara to Henry Miller.

    She was the mother of five sons and three daughters. The boys were Isaac, Michael, John, Adam and George. Girls were Delphena, Elizabeth and Nancy. George was said to have been the youngest of her children. This is bourne out by the ages found for the children in later census data. Delphena was the oldest daughter and Isaac the oldest son.

    Barbara's name appears on various land deeds with that of her husband.

    Barbara died about 1815. The place of her burial has not been found, nor yet that of her parents. The story handed down is that she was buried in the Fleshman or Richland cemetery. This would be in Greenbrier County.

    Barbara married Henry MILLER on 09 Jan 1796 in Greenbrier County, Virginia. Henry (son of Unk MILLER) was born in 1769 in Germany; died about 1853 in Symmes Township, Lawrence County, Ohio; was buried in Yates Cemetery/Symmes Township, Lawrence County, Ohio. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Adam Miller was born in Virginia, Greenbrier County, on Muddy Creek Mountain. His father was the Henry Miller of these records and his mother was Barbara Arbaugh. He was born in 1806.

    Very likely he was named after his maternal grandfather, Adam Arbaugh, who was deceased about a half dozen years before Adam was born.

    Adam helped his father work on the farm and in the fields and woods.

    Adam remained in Virginia even after his father and many other members of his family left for Ohio to live. He stayed on for some years. Around 1847 he, with his family, moved to Symmes Township of Lawrence County, Ohio.

    He was the father of 13 known children, five by his first wife and eight by the second.

    He was a farmer by trade, and a member of the Methodist Church at Buffalo called Rehobeth. To this he was faithful. His neighbors always remembered him, even in his declining years being so punctual to pass by their homes with black hat and cane going to church.

    Three or more of his sons served in the Civil War. His son Harvey went, but did not return.

    Adam owned land in section four of Symmes, and the name Miller Hollow is used where he used to live. It is a branch off of Caulley Creek.

    John Miller was born in Greenbrier County, Va. His parents were Isaas and Catherine (Rife) Miller. When young he moved to Lawrence County, Ohio. It is believed that the family migrated westward to Vermillion County, Indiana after the oldest of his sisters married in Gallia County to John Neal. The family remained in Indiana long enough for two members to be born, a son and a daughter, before coming back to Ohio. Before 1870 John moved to Washington Twp., Lawrence Co., Ohio and farmed his own farm he had purchased and was there for the census of that year. Around 1872, John and Winifred sold their land in Washington Township, and with all the children that were alive, except sons Eli and Howard, moved to Pulaski County, Missouri. Their daughter Rachel, married to James Lanthorn, with their family and Isaac Newton (Newt) and his wife and child also went along. There were others also. They found land, they found work, but tragedy struck the Miller family. Four of their children died, one of them burned to death, and John himself took sick and lingered awhile before dying. The widow became so disheartened that she, with her unmarried children, her son Newt and family and the James Lanthorn family returned back to Ohio.

    John married Winifred WRAY on 12 Jan 1837 in Lawrence County, Ohio. Winifred (daughter of Thomas A. WRAY and Rachel NEAL) was born on 28 Jan 1819 in Gallia County, Ohio or Peter's Mountain, Monroe County, Virginia; died on 02 Feb 1890 in Lawrence County, Ohio; was buried in Rehoboth Cemetery/Symmes Township, Lawrence County, Ohio.
