    Following Letter from the DAR Library, Washington, D.C. from George Dellinger, Shenandoah Co. VA. to John Stout, Carter Co. TN.
    "June the 18th 1816
    Dear Friend
    This is now the 4th letter I send you without getting an answer. I thought to try once more if perhaps I might get some word from you Tommy came to my House a short time before christmas he was not alltogether well and complained of the yellow jaundice which was curet, but a very bad Cough he had till he died, we had different Doctors to attend him the last was David Neaf whose skill is much spoken of but all in vain for he departed this life the 2nd March last (past). About his clothing we know not what to say, but want to hear from you what we are to do with them. He desired that I should send them word that they should not live as he had, and he had done But to Change their way of living as they hoped to be saved, not only one of you But Father, Mother sisters brothers and all Relations; He said as he could not see you here no more he was sure he would see you all at the day of the general Resurection. Please to come and fetch his Clothing for the do us
    no good he had no debts, and I make no Charge you have noghint to pay for him I paid all; we are all well at present Joshua Foltzes wife died soon after Thomas---And we hope these lines will find you all well.
    However please to Write to us or come in as soon as possble---and further Please to Write to Adam Miller on Holston River Sullavan County and he will send us word immediately-- I remain Your Loving Friend
