  From A Costner Family Tree web site Most of the Costners throughout this area can trace their heritage back to Hans Georg Adam Kastner. After leaving Edenkoben, Germany, Adam and 4 of his 7 children when to England via Rotterdam around 1740. His wife stayed in Germany with his other three children. In 1748, Adam loaded up his family for the trip to the New World. After settling in York County, Pennsylvania he remarried and had three more children. His oldest son Jacob (and possibly Peter) were the first to travel to North Carolina. Adam and the rest of the family followed shortly. They settled in an area close to present day Dallas, North Carolina. The Kastner name was changed to Costner around this time. Although, Adam kept the Kastner name until his death in 1767.
