1305 | Info from Brenda Roberts files: Tyree was the only Turner listed on the census in Stokes Co 1820, but was married in Rockingham Co to Sally Stephens 16 Sept 1819 - ======================= Info from Kristina Turner files: On July 20, 1870 he was in Rockingham Co, Mayo Twp. as listed in 1870 NC census. He gave the middle name as "T" in that census. Tyre was 71 years old. His wife Mary [Glenn] was 61 Son John was 19, and John's wife, Sarepta [Plummer] was 18. He apparently died before 1880 census, as he was not listed with his widow and son John R. that year. He was listed as dead on his son Jas P. Turner's marriage license application on April 22, 1885. ================================================ More info from Kristina Turner: It's true the Neal, Turner, & Glenn clans were Very intertwined..!!! [William Neal (1804-1887) 'Could' be George's GG Grandfather - if, indeed, HE was the father of Harriet Knight (bastard d/o- Malinda Knight) The other candidate was John Fulp !!] No, I do not know if Tyre's 2nd wife, Mary Glenn, was born a Glenn.... Per census data she was b.c.1809 NC and died after the 1880 census.... I've always wondered about the 'H & R' in her son's name -- John H____ R____ Turner (1850 -1889) Could the H & R be a clue about Mary's father -- OR even Tyre's father !!???? If Mary (Glenn) Turner died in Stokes Co. [while living with her son] then perhaps she's buried there rather than in Rockingham Co...?? I doubt we'll ever find Mary's or Tyre's graves. My 'gut' feeling is that Tyre & his first wife Sally (Stephens) Turner were in Sardis Baptist Cem. - their stones now long gone...... ============================================= | TURNER, Tyree (I1142)

1321 | Info furnished by Sharon Alexander Bond. ....Betty is buried in Baker, LA beside her husband James Starns who preceded her in death by 17 years. Betty married him when she was only fifteen....Mother made her wedding gown and those of the bridesmaids as well as their headpieces. I was eight years old when Betty married Jimmy in the First Baptist Church in Franklinton. She was always a favorite aunt of mine and was a great beauty. She was a tiny woman who was about the sweetest girl on the planet. Life was not good to her. Janice probably has that wedding album. Jimmy's family owned the Starns' Drug Store in Bogalusa. His mother was extremely cruel to Betty....often saying mean things that made Betty cry. Mrs. Starns was a very snobby woman. I knew her when I was in high school and swore to myself that I would never be cruel or mean to any daughter-in-law of mine. When Jimmy passed away, the Starns family had nothing more to do with Betty. The children of Betty and Jimmy are all very sweet natured, but I have not seen them in about fifteen years. I did not attend her funeral, but Mom did. ~~~~~~ 1940 United States Federal Census Name: Betty Ruth Peters Age: 6 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1934 Gender: Female Race: White Birthplace: Mississippi Marital Status: Single Relation to Head of House: Daughter Home in 1940: Pearl River, Mississippi Street: Dupont Road Inferred Residence in 1935: Rural, Pearl River, Mississippi Residence in 1935: Rural, Pearl River, Mississippi Sheet Number: 1A Household Members: Name Age Rayner P Peters 40 Ida Lou Peters 39 Ray Peters 19 Jack Peters 18 Orcie Peters 16 Shirley Peters 13 Reginald Peters 12 Donald Peters 10 Betty Ruth Peters 6 Annette Peters 2 Source Citation: Year: 1940; Census Place: , Pearl River, Mississippi; Roll: T627_2057; Page: 1A; Enumeration District: 55-3. Vestal, was so good to hear from you and most interesting. Sorry to hear that so many have this eye problem. My sight left me it seems overnight but still do very well except straight ahead vision. Yes, Hazel has lived in Naples since about 1980 - When Balow,(her husband) died in 99 she came to Durham and then to Winston but she was not happy and several years ago moved back to a retirement home there. Good to hear about Paul's girls - We kinda lost contact since we have been in Durham. Maybe we can make to the reunion next year. But who know what the future will be. 1329 | Interview with Juanita in 2015 Juanita said that her grandfather, Daniel Richard Phelps held her Grandmother, Sarah Jane Lebow, on his lap when she was a baby. He said that he was going to marry her someday and he did when she was 16 years old and he was 45 after he came home from the Civil War. Juanita said Dr Lovingood bought the Phelps homestead including what was later called the Lovingood springs. For many years, he gave free shots to school children at this popular spring. She and brother Jerrod did the milking on the farm. Bill Jackson drew a sketch of the "Mike Phelps" knife and made two that were identical (Dan Phelps has these two knives). Rosa's mother was part Indian and she would squat rather than sit in a chair. While working in TX, father, Esco would plow a team of horses and one loop around the field would take all day. Rosa taught She and brother Edward their first cords on a guitar. Esco worked on the Fontana Dam Project Sarah Jane packed a lunch and took the family to church every Sunday. Esco sent for Rosa, Edna and Geneva to come to TX. When the train made a stop on their way, a couple tried to steal one of them away. | PHELPS, Juanita Maye (I11820)

1333 | It's hard to say how it all began, all I know is that one day we knew we were in love and there was no turning back. In fact I think we fell in love at the same moment, it still makes my heart flutter thinking about it. From the time of establishing the utmost feelings for each other only one thing remained-location. He had to figure out a way to get me to Tennessee. How does a boy go about this? I still wonder how he thought he was going to get a girl born and raised in Chicago to move down South. At that point in my life, about two years ago, I wasn't sure that I would ever live outside that city. Of course I had entertained the idea, but nothing had come to fruition, or seemed like it would be worth it. Then my whole perspective changed with Zach in my life. The truth is that it only took several sincere long gazes, him asking and assuring me that it was all that he wanted, and would do anything to help make it happen. And he did. Zach has never broken his word with me, has always been there for me, and loved me without a question or doubt.(definite marriage material:) So, when he got on one knee there was hardly a need for the question, an instant "yes" blurted out of my mouth before I knew it. Although, I did have an inkling what was about to happen. Not wanting to create false expectations for myself I did my best rein in my thoughts wondering if this was the moment-or not. Unable to calm myself or or shrug off my gut feeling, I waited to see what would happen. When he put the song on "Love Me Tender" I was assured as I stood there nervously doing a few dishes. In that brief moment I found that I could barely keep standing, my knees were shaking so bad. Before I knew it I was wearing the shiniest ring known to man, and by the end of the longest minute of my life my dream had come true that I will marry the man I love. . | ORBIN, Zachariah Christopher (I14347)

It was the only "colonial" city and the first permanent English settlement west of the Allegheny Mountains. Referred to as the "Birthplace of the West," Harrodsburg has a proud and remarkable heritage. From here the pioneers filtered through - conquering the wilderness and going on to populate and settle the rest of the Western frontier. Harrodsburg was first the county seat of Fincastle County, Virginia then Kentucky County Virginia. When Kentucky County was divided into the counties of Fayette, Jefferson and Lincoln, Harrodsburg was the county seat of Lincoln County, which at that time covered over a third of the soon to be state. My mother (Violet Young) worked for him and helped take care of Mrs. Ida. He would go out and sit on the back porch while we cleaned the house for him on Saturdays and do his laundry. Mother would always take Sharon, Virginia and me (Rebecca) with her. Even after Mrs. Ida passed away we still did his chores for Pop. He was a good man with a big heart.. When school came around he would help purchase our clothing for school. I remember one year, he bought me a white fleece coat, black dress with beautiful round polka-dot colors of red, yellow, white, and blue in the dress and a beautiful pain of oxford shoes to wear. I felt like a million dollars when I went to Church that Sunday. Years passed and I graduated from High School and he gave me a Bolivia Watch for graduation. He passed soon after that. I went on to finish college at Trevecca Nazarene College in Nashville, IN He did for all of us children the same. He would tell Daddy "My Young" I will do what I can do to help you family. They always help Me.! Mother loved Mrs. Ida. She always said that she was one of the sweetest ladies that God ever put on this earth. Mother and Daddy thought there was no one like the Peter's. *Uncle John and Aunt Lizzie", my sister Sharon stayed with "Aunt Lizzie" for years after Uncle John passed away. I am currently trying to find out if anyone knows anything about James and when he went to Sunbright. We loved James and Reba very much. Brother Thomas worked for James in the store after school. He was so helpful for the family. You sure had a nice family. You will never know how much we love and miss them. Many blessings to you.Rebecca. Young ~~~~~~ 1942 registered for WW-2 draft.
